Course Overview

This Competency Unit specifies the skills and knowledge required by people to operate in the trade pertaining to operate forklift in the manufacturing / logistics industry in a WSQ Level 1 operation.

Course Content

Types of forklifts and their load capacities:

Parts of forklift and their functions
Workplace safety and health code of practice relating to forklift practice
Protecting loads from damage during documentation
Reporting procedures if work preparation is not completed
Main parts of forklifts to be inspected
Constituents of each main part of forklift to be inspected
Safety precautions in inspecting forklift
Cargo handling symbols
Forklift stability
Operating procedures for different types of loads
Safety precautions in lifting potentially hazardous loads
Operating procedures for different types of terrains and confined spaces
Workplace safety and health code of practice relating to forklift operations
Procedures of reporting unsafe/unauthorised forklift practices
Procedures relating to parking of forklift
Handover procedures of forklift

Target Audience

This course aims to provide people already working or wishing to enter the generic manufacturing industry with the skills and knowledge required to operate forklift. The Competency unit would be appropriate for people with job title such as Forklift driver.

Assumed Skills and Knowledge

Learners are assumed to possess the following set of attitudes, skills and knowledge:

Holding a valid LTA issued Class 3 driving licence in Singapore or Malaysia class D driving licence
Minimum WPLN Level 3
Ability to read and understand manufacturer’s instructions, procedures and safety signs.
Above 18 years of age
Safety shoes and proper attire (no singlet/ shorts/Bermudas) are Compulsory for all

Renewal Points for professionals

Requirements to be a trainer and assessor for this course

Have completed Operate Forklift course
Have at least 5 years’ experience related to Forklift Operation in the industry
Be equipped with Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) or Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP) or Diploma in Adult Continuing Education (DACE) or Diploma in Design and Development of Learning for Performance (DDDLP).
Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety and Health.
All adult educators are required to attain 10 hours (minimum) annually by attending Continuing Professional and Development (CPD) courses conducted by appointed training providers.

The trainer for the course is not permitted to be the assessor for the same course learners during the assessment.

Certification

Results will be published at the end of the course, and Safety Pass will be distributed to competent learners as per the Assessor’s assessment outcome by EuroSAFE Associates Pte Ltd.
WSQ Statement of Attainment for the Competent learners can be downloaded as eCert from https://www.myskillsfuture.gov.sg/content/portal/en/foreigner/download-cert.html
The results are usually updated and released by the relevant department within 1 hour after the assessment.

For individuals who register and pay for the course on their own

Singapore Citizens aged 21 and above and Permanent Residents are eligible for up to 50% course fee funding from SSG for Certifiable courses.
