The “Apply Workplace Safety and Health in Shipyard (General Trade)” course aims to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to recognize the safety hazards at shipyard work, know the preventive measures to be adopted, and the importance of observing safety signs and safe work procedures operating in the shipbuilding and ship repairing work environment.

Course Outline

Understand legal obligations in workplace safety and health.
Identify hazards in a shipyard.
Recognise the different types of industrial safety signs.
Understand the application process for safety permit prior to hot work.
Don personal protective equipment.
Apply safety precautions when working with different hazards.
Respond to fire and emergency.

Target Audience

The “Apply Workplace Safety and Health in Shipyard (General Trade)” is a mandatory WSH training course for workers in general trade operating in the shipbuilding and ship repairing work environment.

Assumed Skills and Knowledge

Learners must be above 18 years of age and are assumed to:

Employability Skills (ES) Work place Literacy level 3 and above.
Be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to ES level 3; and

Trainer to Learner ratio for theory sessions: 1:20
Trainer to Learner ratio for written assessment: 1:20

Attendance

Attendance Requirements: 100% for classroom and practical sessions

Certification

A Statement of Attainment (SOA) and Safety pass will be awarded to successfully completed participants.
